Vauxhall City Farm is a little oasis in the
centre of London. It is a charity which aims to give city kids
a glimpse into the countryside, by giving them the opportunity
to look after a wide range of animals – rabbits, cows, pigs,
chickens and even a couple of alpacas! They also have ponies of
course, currently five of them, and a flood-lit outdoor arena.
The farm is located in Spring Gardens, about two minutes walk
from Vauxhall tube and railway station and about 20 minute walk
from Westminster. Its a very welcoming, friendly place, where
you not only get to ride, but also to help groom your horse and
other stable activities. Why not take the whole family along to
ride and look at the animals!
Vauxhall City Farm relies very much on
volunteers, and we have built up a good relationship
with them - some of our members like it so much they volunteer to help out! By riding at Vauxhall we help to
support a charity who do great work for the community.
Of the five ponies currently at the Farm, three are suitable for
the club. Taz and DJ are both around 14 hands 2 and Danny is 13
hands 2. All three are very well behaved – they are also used
for RDA riders, so are very safe to ride for beginners. They are
also well educated, and will therefore be a fun ride also for
intermediate to advanced riders! Because of the size of the
ponies, there is currently a maximum weight limit of 10 stone
for beginners and 10.5 stone for more experienced riders.
However, the Farm is currently looking to buy a larger horse,
suitable for heavier riders, so if you are interested in riding,
please let us know even if you are over the weight limit, and we
will keep you up to date with developments!
Club lessons are on Wednesdays between 6.00
and 8.00 pm. Price: £25 for
a 45 min group lesson (2-3 people) or for a 30 min private
lesson.
