Vauxhall City Farm is a little oasis in the centre of London. It is
a charity which aims to give city kids a glimpse into the
countryside by offering them the opportunity to look after a
wide range of animals – rabbits, cows, pigs, chickens and even a
couple of alpacas! They also have horses and ponies and a
flood-lit outdoor arena which has been resurfaced this summer
(2012).
The farm is located in Spring Gardens, about two minutes' walk from
Vauxhall tube and railway stations and about 20 minutes' walk
from Westminster. Its a very welcoming, friendly place where you
not only get to ride, but also to groom, tack up and untack your
horse. Why not take the whole family along to ride and look at
the animals!
Vauxhall City Farm relies very much on volunteers, and we have built
up a good relationship with them. Some of our members like
it so much they volunteer during the day, and we all help with
stable-related activities when needed. By riding at Vauxhall we
help to support a charity which does great work for the
community.
Vauxhall currently have 2 horses and three ponies suitable for our
members. They are very well behaved – they are used for Riding
for the Disabled, and are safe to ride for beginners. They are
well educated, and so are fun for intermediate riders too.
Because of the size of the horses, there is a maximum weight
limit of 11 stone (70 kilos) for beginners and 12.5 stone (80
kilos) for more experienced riders. If you are interested in
riding at Vauxhall with the CSRC do get in touch!
Club lessons are on
Wednesdays between 6.00 and 8.00 pm. Price: £28 for a 45 min
group lesson (2-3 people) or for a 30 min private lesson. All
